Captain Selena Quintanilla is a leader in the U.S. Space Force, serving as the Flight Commander of Hunt & Clear Operations at the 328th Weapons Squadron, Peterson SFB, Colorado. A cyber warfare tactician, they craft and instruct advanced cyber tactics to defend critical space missions. Selena’s journey into military service was inspired by their parents, both Army veterans, and a deep commitment to national defense. Selena would lightheartedly tease their father over his 25 years of service by claiming they’d do at least 26.
Commissioned from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2020, Capt. Quintanilla was among the first to transfer to the Space Force. Their career has been marked by excellence in defensive cyber operations, supporting the $37.4 billion Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS), a constellation of missile warning satellites. Their leadership and technical acumen have earned them top honors, including Space Operations Command CGO of the Year and the Air and Space Forces Association CGO of the Year. As a transgender officer and advocate, Capt. Quintanilla remains focused despite political challenges. Selena spoke with Denver7 News about the resilience of transgender service members. “I serve because I love my country, and I refuse to let political decisions erase my contributions,” they state. Regardless of policy changes, their dedication to mission success remains unwavering. |
