CPT Kazper Lewis commissioned from the United States Military Academy as an Engineer Officer, driven by a desire to make a real impact on Soldiers' lives. Throughout his career, he has balanced leadership, mission execution, and advocacy—ensuring both the success of his teams and the well-being of the Soldiers under his command.
Serving as a Unit Movement Officer and Assistant S4 for the 82nd Brigade Engineer Battalion, CPT Lewis supported a 9-month EUCOM rotation, leading his platoon through security missions and partner force training. Transitioning to Platoon Leader in 2022, he built a strong unit culture where trust and professionalism came first. "I never hid being transgender, but I also didn’t make a point of coming out," he says. "I focused on leading my Soldiers, and they judged me by my actions—not my identity." While preparing for Company Command, he serves as an Engineer Staff Trainer OC/T (Observer, coach, trainer) at the National Training Center. CPT Lewis is preparing for Company Command where his unique perspective as a leader will continue to shape and strengthen the Army. “Being transgender does not affect my ability to lead—but it does provide me with a different lens. The Army is strongest when it embraces diverse perspectives, and I am proud to serve alongside Soldiers who bring their own unique strengths to the fight.” |
