The Power of Story"Towards the end of Trump’s (first) presidency, my roommate had an idea. Her dad worked for Reuters and sent a news team to my house. We did a deep interview and video recording. Eventually that story got up to the Pentagon. Two weeks later, I had at least 14 recruiters call me." - Petty Officer 2nd Class Paulo Batista
Stories can connect us, show our humanity, and break stereotypes. A story well told is the most powerful tool transgender service members have. Like Paulo's example, story can drive change. That's what we hope to do with this website, create positive change and dispel the harmful myths and stereotypes around transgender military experiences.
We want to let the transgender troops speak for themselves and tell their own stories. They are powerful examples of how there is no one way to be transgender, no singular experience, but there are common threads: service, sacrifice, and dedication. The stories can be heartbreaking, heartwarming, or everything in-between. We hope you learn a bit more and challenge your own expectations regarding transgender military service. |
